What is an evaluation question?

When your reviewers assess a candidate, there are two main ways they provide feedback:

  1. Code Review – Reviewers can leave line-by-line comments and optionally share them anonymously with the candidate.

  2. Evaluation Questions – These are structured questions that your company defines. Reviewers answer them by scoring each one from 1 to 5.

For example, for a backend task, you might include a question like:

“Did the candidate follow SOLID principles?”

If this is something your company values, and most reviewers give a low score for it, it can serve as a strong signal in your hiring decision.

⚠️ Answers to evaluation questions are internal-only. Candidates are not aware that these questions exist, and they will never see the scores or responses.

General evaluation questions are reusable questions that appear in every assessment — before any task-specific questions. They help your team establish a consistent evaluation process across all candidates.
